The Adoption Club

I'm in a cool club-- it's called the Adoption Club.  I never knew I wanted to be in this club but I LOVE being a part of it!!  If you have adopted a child or are waiting to adopt or to be matched  you too are in this club (in case you didn't know it!)  I love my friends in the club.  Some of my club friends are people I have never physically met-- just blogging or FB friends-- and some I see every month or so at one of our  gatherings.  A year ago we (5 of us) started a Central Florida Adoptive Families Group on FB and now we have 75 members!  We try to gather for play dates every other month and after going to the Created for Care Conference last year I started a girls lunch every other month.  In June we met for a play date at a Splash Park and in July we met for lunch.  Here are some pictures of our last 2 events-- love these friends and families!!

Ladies Lunch-- these girls ROCK!!

This month we have a Called to Adopt dinner scheduled and a lunch in September. In November we have Magical Families which is awesome!!   I love this "club" or better yet "family" I now belong to.  We just "get" each other... like others don't...

  3. I'm so jealous! I wish I had something like this here in Utah. I'm a co-chair for a group "Families Supporting Adoption" but it is really hard to find people who want to be involved. I just don't get it. I love connecting with other adoptive parents, and want my children to have friends who have also been adopted. I feel it is so important. Looks like a fun activity, you're so lucky!
And in response to your question on my blog, yes, I got married on a popular day! The temple I got married in has a few rooms where couples can be married. So there were probably 4 other couples getting married at the same time. Then more couples came in later. If you get married on a Tuesday in February, you would probably be the only one there. A Friday in August, pretty popular day apparently. But I didn't mind, I only saw the other brides mostly in the area where you can do your hair and make up. My reception was held at a beautiful reception center near my home, and we were the only newlyweds at that! :-)
A wedding in an LDS temple is different than a wedding you would see elsewhere. There are no flower girls, walking down an aisle or pictures being taken. It is something very sacred in our church where Mike and I made promises to each other and to God. We believe that in the temple, we are married for time and for all eternity. So no "Til death do you part" is said, because we believe families are together forever. So it is held in a small (beautiful) room with our closest family and friends there to see us make these promises. LDS (Latter Day Saint or "Mormon") couples usually do some sort of reception after where we can dance, cut the cake, and visit. I know it is different, but it was such a special day to us. Thanks for asking!
Oh, and here is a link to a picture of what a "sealing room" looks like where we were married, scroll down to near the bottom and you will see it:
